Zoo lights

Winter is horrible season for all of us, but it is a most import season of the year because it has a lot of impressive events to us. The zoo lights at Lincoln Park is the special event in Chicago. This event opens every year around Christmas times. I choose to attend in this event because I have lived in the U.S.  for many year, but I have not visited  any events in Chicago. Pop culture class gives me opportunities to explore it .

Because it was the first day of opening and free admissions, it was full of parking lot and has a lot people to visit it.  It was light ceremony. All the lights were naturally moving by melody of music. It made me to dance with the  lights. I love animal lights. The people who created them were intelligent to decorate and mix the lights them. I went to see it when the temperature was extremely cold. however, the beautiful of the lights make me to forget the coolness of the winter.  I got Christmas fever when I was there, I took a lot of picture with my friends.

Moreover, I saw little kids dress with a thickest jacket, and they took picture with the Santa. Some of them cried because of scare, but some kids was exciting because of fun, and curious. When I got home, my friend recommended that I should go to   Morton Arboretum park. It is more colorful and impressive than Lincoln park Zoo.

The electric bicycles are  the popular vehicle in Vietnam now. Students under 18  do not allow to drive a motorcycle, so that's why students prefer to drive an electric bicycle during going to school which do not affect to atmospheres.

Rice cannot miss in Julie Dash’s family because they are rice eaters family. They are really radical about cooking and serving of rice. The family came from South Carolina, and eating the rice is their religion. Aunt Gertie who is the best cooker and serving the rice in the family, she serves the rice for every meal. They were rice planters and harvesters before becoming the rice eaters.

Thubar was a pilot to ship slave from Africa to South Carolina. He stashed a bag of rice and then he left his bushel with the bag of rice and his fellow. They planted those seeds at Carolina, so Carolina rice became renowned and entirely appeared on the U.S.

Aunt Gertie was a Julie Dash’s aunt in 1894. Aunt Gertie loves music and she became a supervisor of music of country. She learned how to cook the basic of rice at early, and she also taught Julie Dash a lot of cooking rice. Everyone in Julie Dash’s family knows how to cook, and they do not allow to mistake when cooking. As Julie cooks, she fell the aunt always stands behind and watch her when she stand over a bowl water and rice.

Reflection III

            The movie chapter, I have learned many different types of movie.  In addition, besides the Hollywood studios, I researched more information of Warner Bros Studios, Tyler Perry Studios, and Paramount Pictures. Those are the famous movie industries in The U.S.  Tyler Perry is African American, and he has multiple talents, involving of the writer, filmmaker, and actor.   The majority of his movies focus to a middle class, and particular audiences.

            Moreover, I have known the differences between the Hollywood, Tyler Perry, Indies, and Bollywood. The first, Hollywood is formula movies, and it serves to all people. Hollywood studios have existed since 1820. Tyler Perry focuses to specific audiences. Indies is content and structure films that are deep movies, no actions, and most about thinking.Especially, Indies films have only black and white color. Bollywood studios opened from 1500s-2000s. It is India high culture, but why it could not make a lot of money as same as Hollywood studios. Because India has not had many fancy theaters, the price of a ticket is cheap, the amount of audience is small, these reasons make Bollywood industry is going to decrease so far.

            My aha moments, most of Americana know Jonny Depp, but not many of us have known that he was the famous actor in the Indies films, so Indies films are a bridge, which send him to Hollywood and developed his talents. Other aha moments, in Bollywood industry, family connections are the important factor to participate in success of actor/actress.

Team project

Pop culture of 1980s was my team ‘s topic. The first, we had outlined topic by four specific sections, and each member had to search individual information. Next day in class, we shared ideas in the class. In addition, we exchanged the phone numbers from each other, so we easily communicated and shared our works at any time. I just have known that the Iran- Iraq war began in 1980 because I thought it could happen earlier than 1980 and I wonder why their religions were similar to each other, how they could have a fighting. I proud of my team because our team was good of responsibilities of team working; indeed, our team had good times to work together and had a perfect presentation in class. I had my best time to search and know some of TV shows in 1980 that related to my topic. However, I have not had much satisfied my work after watching other groups’ presentation because I did not add video and trailer which was a simple evidence to explain my works.

Reflection The pop culture is the simple word that we often use to say, but some people rarely pay attention of the meaning of its. Thus, Pop means the reference or choosing of a lot of people, and cultures refer to the body of the beliefs, behaviors, values, and thoughts of people. In addition, four components of pop culture are an object, people, events, and place. Pop culture is the important part that makes us become Americans; additionally, it cannot fix in time, or constantly change. Shakespeare is an evidence of pop culture. He was a writer of the second half of the twentieth century, but now, people still remember him and remember him with the book Romeo and Juliet, even though a lot of people have not read his book yet. Why did he become a popular writer? He became a popular writer because the texture and language in his writing is complicating to understand and follow to catch all the details in his book. However, some producers translate his books to the movie of purpose to expand his ideas to all people. Therefore, Shakespeare could be a high culture now. Stars are a strong influential to people. Individual can be impacted by two ways, good, and bad. My aha moment is the tattoo is an example pop culture, I thought a tattoo is a personal decision. Other aha moment, I have known Hatsune Miku for long time, and I always think that she is not a human and imaginary star. However, she is a popular and famous star around the world. Be yourself is rather than be some else.

Reflection I

          Cultures are ubiquitous and have many different types, so there is high culture, subcultures, folk cultures and culture shock. In addition, cultures pass from generation through to next generation, it could be adaptive, and also learn behavior. I did not know the culture composes of biological and pop culture. The biological is genders, races, and the way it looks, and sometimes it could show to express by simple word” traditional.” Pop cultures go together with society developing, so I certainly sure that we are going to have more pop cultures in forward. Moreover, I surprise that the iceberg is the modern of culture that has deep culture (informal), technical, and formal, and I realize that some cultures have the rule, but we have not known the reason of that culture. For example, when we go the coffee shop, we know that we have to getting a line and waiting our turn. Thus, it is a rule, but we have not known where the rule comes from and who creates the rule.

            My aha moment was the Red eye magazine is a pop culture. I usually look red eye every morning even though I do not read many details on the magazines. Another aha, I think Oprah’s shows are a talking show about our society during new century, I just knew her shows are an example of high culture.

           The poster identifies little about my culture. The first is  a whiter traditional dress what students high school have to wear every day; additionally, the bride wears the same dress but with red color for the wedding. The next picture is one Pillar PAloga that is a famous historic temple in South Vietnam, and it was built more than a thousand years ago. The picture on the right side at the bottom is Vietnamese noodle soup, and it is the famous food of American. The soup cooks with the beef bone and mixes with some ingredients for three hours that eat with the basil vegetable and while noodle.On the poster also shows two biggest holidays in Vietnam that are Lunar New Year, and Moon Festival. The special holidays, we support to wear red color because we believe red is lucky for New Year. The Moon Festival, the kids bring the lantern to go around neighbors. The last picture is traditional music, the sound of music from 11 slabs of stones. The music instrument has been existing for 300 years and discovered by our ancients. All my classmates come from many different cultures, and each of culture represents of much beautiful of that country
